Small town vibe, big city location.

There's something to be said for keeping it simple (and the price down). The layout of the former family home breathes informality, while lush greenery and windows flung open to the night air remind you that you're in the tropics.
Something about Estrela do Mar feels privileged, despite their cheapest rooms being plain white almost to the point of sterility. The location on a mellow, tree-shaded street, and back onto a lush green hill, is ideal. Walking through the curling iron gate and up the front path feels like dropping by a friend's place. The house is white stucco with dark-blue shutters, and a red-tile roof - very Portugal-meets-the-tropics. Classic white walls set off the few decorative touches, like bright Bahian paintings and ornate blue-and-white tiles. The floors upstairs alternate light and dark wood planks - they're original and in pretty good shape. Mid-range pousadas with character are few and far between in Barra, so reserve this one while you can! Estrela do Mar would be very convenient for Carnaval.
